Avocado Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Now that it's the first week of 2014, we know a lot of you may have made some resolutions to cut down on the calories. And in an effort to help you achieve your goals, while still keeping your sweet tooth in mind, we thought we'd bring you a recipe that was a little bit more waist conscious than some of our past recipes. We know you're probably looking at the ingredients, particularly the avocado, and wondering if we've mixed up our food groups in 2014, but we assure you, we haven't. Not only is avocado technically a fruit, it also contains what's considered "good fat", for those of you who want to start the year a little healthier. The avocado also makes this chocolate mousse creamy and delicious. So, if you like chocolate mousse, then you're in for a real treat, as this mousse has a fudge-like consistency and an undeniable rich chocolate flavor.

Before You Get Started Making Avocado Chocolate Mousse


Measure/Weigh all of the ingredients
Grab your blender or food processor

Avocado Chocolate Mousse Ingredients And Amounts (Yields 2-3 servings)


4 oz (112g) bittersweet chocolate
1/4 cup (56g) thick coconut milk (from the top of the can)
1 ripe Hass avocado
1/2 tsp (2g) vanilla extract
3 tbsp (56g) agave syrup
1 pinch sea salt

Avocado Chocolate Mousse Step-By-Step Directions


1) Combine chocolate and coconut milk in a heatproof bowl and melt slowly in the microwave. Stir as needed, making sure not to burn the chocolate.

2) Add the avocado, vanilla, agave syrup, and salt in a blender or food processor, and blend for a few seconds. Once the chocolate from Step 1 has cooled, add the chocolate mixture and blend till completely smooth.

3) Place the mousse in the refrigerator in a sealed container to set.

Top the mousse with chocolate shavings, nuts, granola, coconut, or just leave it plain, it's just that good
If you don't want to wait for your agave syrup from buying it online, you can find agave syrup at most grocery stores, but can definitely be found at Whole Foods and Trader Joe's
