Pink Ribbon Cookie Tutorial Step-By-Step Directions
1) Prepare your cookies using our sugar cookie recipe and let them cool completely. Make the royal Icing and color it to your preference. Thin the royal icing to the consistency that you like for piping and for flooding. We prepared our icing to a 20-second icing for filling in our whole cookie. If you're just starting with cookie decorating, check out Sweetopia's tips on decorating with royal icing and Sweet Sugar Belle's Twenty Second Icing Tutorial.2) Start by outlining the cookie with a #2 piping tip. 3) If you're using the 20-second icing, fill in the cookie with the same icing you used to pipe the outline. Or, you can use flooding consistency royal icing to fill in the cookie. 4) Use a toothpick as needed to distribute the royal icing around the cookie. 5) Let the cookie dry for at least an hour before putting on the finishing touches. 6) Prepare some royal icing that is a good consistency for piping. With a #2 piping tip, start in the middle of the cookie making a loop. 7) Continue piping around the cookie. 8) Add some edible sparkles or glitter to add some pizazz to the cookie.
Pink Ribbon Cookie Tutorial Sweet Notes
Never leave royal icing open to air as it does dry out and become crumbly. Keep a damp towel over the bowl if you are working with it, or keep it in an airtight container
Royal Icing can be tricky to work with if you are not familiar with it. Getting the perfect consistency that you prefer decorating with comes with practice, and more practice
We prefer to use gel paste food coloring to tint our royal icing
